Site Gallery

Site Gallery has partnered with Teesside University to offer the Curating Degree Apprenticeship, enabling staff to develop critical skills while continuing their roles. This partnership fosters strategic growth and enhances staff capabilities.

Challenge

Site Gallery, Sheffield's international contemporary art space, sought to enhance the professional development of its staff while fostering strategic growth. The gallery needed a structured learning programme that allowed employees to gain advanced skills and knowledge while continuing their work, ultimately aiming to strengthen their ability to deliver high-quality contemporary art experiences.

Solution

To address this challenge, Site Gallery partnered with Teesside University to enrol their employees in the Curating Degree Apprenticeship. This programme provided staff, including producer Robyn Haddon, with the opportunity to develop critical and reflective skills while integrating their learning directly into their work. Chief Executive Judith Harry noted the programme's relevance and alignment with the gallery’s needs, highlighting Teesside University's commitment to designing a niche and impactful apprenticeship.

Impact

The apprenticeship programme has significantly benefited Site Gallery. Their employee, Robyn Haddon, has gained confidence and expertise, enabling them to engage more effectively with various organisations and projects. The partnership with Teesside University has not only enhanced staff capabilities but also supported the gallery’s mission to drive strategic change and inclusivity. This collaboration has allowed Site Gallery to invest in their workforce's future, fostering a more skilled and diverse team while maintaining a high standard of artistic delivery
