Working together to accelerate innovation and productivity growth in the biosciences

Bioscience and biotechnology

Our multi-disciplinary research team has a particular focus on the development of vibrant industrial collaborative research. This is underpinned by the provision of state-of-the-art instrumentation at our newly built National Horizons Centre (NHC) - a £22m, purpose built bioscience facility at the heart of our expertise, providing collaborative opportunities with industry and providing solutions to real-world problems.

Research focuses on disease pathway analysis, food technology, development of medical diagnostic devices, forensic archaeology and anthropology and work to provide improved biotechnology approaches.

We offer analysis and technical services through our bioinformatics expertise and state-of-the-art imaging and analysis equipment. From analysis of a single sample, to comprehensive analysis of many samples using multiple techniques, we can advise on an experimental design that will achieve your objectives.

Services we can offer:

  • Biomarker discovery, treatment monitoring, development of diagnostics and screening supported by bioinformatics modelling and development of predictive models
  • Assay development
  • Drug target development and biomarker identification
  • Metabolism and drug interaction studies
  • Process development, process improvement and product characterization.
  • Protein structure/function studies including aggregation, modification, activation and inhibition
  • Expert analysis of experimental data
  • Advanced cellular imaging capabilities, including live cell imaging, using light, confocal and Raman microscopy approaches incorporating fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) and fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM). Tissue characterisation.
