On 30 January Teesside University worked in partnership with Gateway Graduate School, the University of Nottingham and Pearson EdExcel to deliver an inspirational conference for Sri Lankan students. The aim of the conference was to encourage students from a selection of schools in the capital, Colombo, to achieve their ambitions through higher education.

Over 350 students from over 30 leading schools in Sri Lanka joined the conference to hear motivational talks from speakers including legendary cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan, international soprano Kishani Jayasinghe-Wijayasekara, mountaineering professional and women's rights advocate Jayanthi Kuru-Utumpala, leading entrepreneur Rohan Pallewatte and Teesside University's Dr Dave Morland, Associate Dean International of the School of Social Sciences, Humanities & Law.

"This inaugural International Forum for Students event in Sri Lanka has been an overwhelming success. It has given an opportunity for Advanced Level students from International, private and state-sector schools in Sri Lanka to get exposed to contemporary issues related to instruction or education, imagination and innovation from the perspective of globalization”.

Dr. Harsha Alles, the Chairman of the Gateway Group, commented "This inaugural International Forum for Students event in Sri Lanka has been an overwhelming success. It has given an opportunity for Advanced Level students from International, private and state-sector schools in Sri Lanka to get exposed to contemporary issues related to instruction or education, imagination and innovation from the perspective of globalization”.

Dr Dave Morland commented 'The event provided a fantastic opportunity to meet some very impressive Sri Lankan students. We hope many of them will join us to study on campus in the UK or will enrol on our programmes delivered by Gateway Graduate School in Sri Lanka.'
