Amadeo came from Valencia in Spain to study BSc (Hons) Computer Games Programming.
I am exhibiting work from my final year at ExpoTees, which is an annual exhibition of outstanding work from final year students.
I have created a tool for the game engine Unity to generate five different varieties of map, procedurally, in 3D and 2D for video games.
• Tile maps, that have endless maps inside, which generate new content every time you walk to the edge of the map.
• A pathfinding algorithm to generate a dungeon.
• A binary space partition which uses an algorithm to create several rooms and connects everything with corridors in a maze-like map.
• An automata cave map using an automata cell algorithm game system.
• And an expandable map which generates 3D maps using hexagonal cells like in the video game series, Civilizations and Endless Legends.
ExpoTees has been really good for networking and meeting new people in the industry. I have been able to make good contacts so it’s also an opportunity to find your ideal job!
I have learned a lot of new and interesting things in my subject area and had access to excellent resources. I have also had the opportunity to research and learn about developments and new aspects of video games, enhancing my career potential.
Overall it’s been a really, really good experience and I have made many friends. There were a lot of people who were happy to help me when I first arrived and wasn’t so confident with the language, everyone was really kind to me. I really love the library at Teesside, it’s amazing! I have had access to whatever I need to continue to learn new things. The opportunity has been great!
