British Council GREAT Scholarship

In partnership with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign, Teesside University is offering 2 scholarships for January 2023 for students from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and 3 scholarships for September 2023 to students in Malaysia, Indonesia and Turkey applying for postgraduate courses.

  • Value of scholarship: £10,000
  • Number of scholarships available: 5 GREAT Scholarships.

The GREAT Scholarships 2023 programme, launched by the British Council together with 49 UK universities, supports postgraduate students from Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand, Turkey and Vietnam to access world-class UK higher education opportunities.

The scholarship programme offers financial support of a minimum of £10,000 to students pursuing one-year postgraduate study in the UK. Students can apply for courses in a range of subjects, at the 49 institutions across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Eligibility criteria

To be considered for a GREAT scholarship, you must:

  • Be a national of one of the following countries: Sri Lanka to Bangladesh for January 2023 entry and from Turkey, Malaysia or, Indonesia for September 2023 entry
  • Be assessed as international for tuition fee purposes
  • Be self-funded
  • For students starting in January 2023 from Sri Lanka or Bangladesh, you must hold an offer from Teesside University (Conditional or Unconditional) by 10 November 2022 for a postgraduate taught one-year master's programme, commencing September 2023
  • For students starting in September 2023 from Turkey, Malaysia or Indonesia, you must hold an offer from Teesside University (Conditional or Unconditional) by 30 April 2023 for a postgraduate taught one-year master's programme, commencing September 2023

How to apply

Applications are open until the 10 November 2022 for January entry and 30 April 2023 for September entry

Candidates will be automatically considered for this scholarship; no separate scholarship application is necessary. The scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding candidate displaying exceptional academic merit, displayed in their academic application.

Further information - successful recipients

  • Will be informed by 30 November for January entry and 31 May 2023 for September entry.
  • Will be unable to combine this scholarship with other Teesside University scholarships.
  • Will be expected to contribute to the wider marketing and outreach activity of Teesside University.
