British Council GREAT Scholarship

In partnership with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign, Teesside University is offering two scholarships - one to a student from Vietnam and one to a student from Spain - applying for a one-year postgraduate course.

Scholarships

  • Value of scholarship: £10,000
  • Number of scholarships available: two GREAT Scholarships.

The GREAT scholarships 2026 programme, launched by the British Council together with over 60 UK universities, supports postgraduate students from Bangladesh, China (mainland only), Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, and Vietnam in accessing world-class UK higher education opportunities.

The scholarship programme offers financial support of a minimum of £10,000 to students pursuing one-year postgraduate study in the UK. Students can apply for courses in a range of subjects, at over 60 institutions across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

September 2026 entry

Two scholarships are available - one to a student from Vietnam, and one to a student from Spain.

Eligibility criteria

To be considered for a GREAT scholarship, you must:

  • be a national of one either Vietnam or Spain
  • be assessed as international for tuition fee purposes
  • be self-funded
  • hold an offer from Teesside University (conditional or unconditional) by 24 April 2026 for a postgraduate taught one-year master's programme, commencing from September 2026
  • be an international fee payer at Teesside University studying on-campus in Middlesbrough or Darlington (Teesside University Online and Teesside University courses outside the UK are therefore excluded from this scholarship).

How to apply

Apply by 24 April 2026

Candidates will be automatically considered for this scholarship; no separate scholarship application is necessary. The scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding candidate displaying exceptional academic merit, displayed in their academic application.

Information for successful applicants

Successful applicants:

  • will be informed by 30 may 2025.
  • will be unable to combine this scholarship with other Teesside University scholarships and are unable to defer their scholarship
  • will be expected to contribute to the wider marketing and outreach activity of Teesside University.

Please note that applicants should be passport holders of Vietnam or Spain.

Awards are made at the discretion of the International Scholarships Committee, who may consider your financial background, prior academic performance, as well as other information provided through your application and at any subsequent interview.

If you are successful, you will be contacted by the University by email with a scholarship offer - please look out for this communication. If you are not contacted with a scholarship offer, you have been unsuccessful in receiving the scholarship on this occasion.
